Brown Bear Watching in Finland
An opportunity to observe the Wild Brown Bear in its natural environment from the comfort and safety of specially designed Bear hides. The hide sites are in a small open wetland with a backdrop of spruce pine and birch forest close to the Russian border in Kuhmo eastern Finland.
In addition to bear you can observe a wide range of birds, deer and if lucky wolverines. This is an excellent location for photographers. All benefit from the 12- 16 hours of direct sunlight and 2-4 hours twilight during the viewing season.
The Standard hides are equipped with comfortable viewing chairs, sleeping areas, hearing amplificatory system to listen to the birds and dry toilets. They are located 10-30 metres from the bears.
The professional hides are more basic, but ideal for 1-2 people wanting to get up close to the animals.. They allow less input by the guides but are just 5-20 metres from the bears.
Season: April – October
Getting there:
We can arrange flights to the nearest airport, Kuopio 100km west of Kuhmo, and car rental or taxi transfers. Alternatively we can include the bear watching as part of a more extensive fly drive itinerary.
Program:
17.00 hrs Meet at the centre for information about the hides and bears.
17.30 hrs Transfer to the hides with all equipment.
06.00 – 08.00: in the morning return to the centre.

Equipment recommended to bring along:
Binoculars, camera, video and appropriate clothing depending on the forecast.
Accommodation at the centre:
Price per person per night: £48
Includes a room for 2-4 people with private facilities, breakfast and dinner.
Transfer from Kajaani airport:
Transfers can be arranged from / to Kajaani airport, 125km or 1 ½ hours drive from the Wild Brown Bear Centre.
Price £160 for 1-3 people / £235 for 4-8 people.
