Maybe the most well known long-hiking trail in Scandinavia is situated in north eastern Finland, in the Oulanka national park. Although the Finns have always remarked on the special beauty of this aera it was not until 1956 that it was designated as a national park. The national park is remarkable for its beautiful Oulankajoki river, exceptional varied flora and unique rock formations and canyons. You will have the opportunity to experience all of these features during the hike.

Accommodation: - First and last night in a basic hotel in double rooms. While treking overnight in basic wilderness huts or in 2-3 person tents.

7-day Itinerary

Prices

DAY 1 Scheduled flight from London Heathrow or Manchester via Helsinki to Kuusamo.
Transfer from the airport Kuusamo to the Hotel Kuusanko. Information about the coming week. Dinner. Overnight.

DAY 2 Start to the trek. Road Kuusamo-Salla - Taivalköngäs; Distance about 9 km, duration about 3 hours.

DAY 3 Possibility for a sidehike to the Oulanka-Canyon (8 km return) without luggage.
After this further hiking Taivalköngäs - Kiutaköngäs (possiblity for food-shopping); Distance about 9 km, duration about 3 hours.

DAY 4 Kiutaköngäs - Jussinkämppä; Distance about 15 km, duration about 5 hours.

DAY 5 Jussinkämppä - Jyrävä; Distance about 16 km, duration about 5 hours.

DAY 6 Jyrävä - Juuma (short sidehike to the Myllykoski-falls); Distance about 5 km, duration 2 - 3 hours. Transfer back to Kuusamo Hotel Kuusanko. Sauna. Dinner.

DAY 7 Transfer to Kuusamo airport for a flight via Helsinki to the UK.

Catering
The common material (incl. food) will be split between the participants. The food must be carried for 3 days maximum as there are shopping possibilities during the trek.
