Daylight hours during December
During December there is approximately 4.5 hours of light per day from around 10.00 until 14.30.
The sun does not rise above the horizon for most of the month, however, the darkness will only add to the magic of the setting and does not prevent you from enjoying this winter wonderland.
Time difference
Finland is 2 hours ahead of the UK.
Climate
In December temperatures in Finland range from 0 to an extreme – 40°, and that’s cold!
Fortunately, the cold in Finland is crisp and dry and if you follow our clothing guidelines you’ll stay snug and comfortable even when you’re enjoying the wealth of outdoor activities we offer.
All activities are arranged subject to local weather conditions, which are outside our control. Should temperatures reach the extreme then modified programs will operate.
Clothing
Winter in Finland is totally unlike the mild winters in the UK so we don’t expect you to own all the suitable clothing you’ll need. Instead, we provide everyone with a special thermal outer suit, stout boots, mitts, a pair of thick outer socks and a hat.
However, we do expect you to bring adequate and appropriate clothing to wear under our special thermal suits including thermal underwear. In addition, spare pairs of mitts and a balaclava for each of your children are recommended.
Christmas Accommodation
Please note that the northern part of Finland does not offer 5-star accommodation and that facilities such as room service, laundry etc are not available. On the contrary, our locations are especially chosen for the simpler pleasures in life: the beautiful settings and unique character – and the friendly service
Winter Insurance
Recent changes made by the Financial Services Authority in the regulations regarding the sale of travel Insurance means that we no longer include advice or policy detail on travel insurance, however in previous years we have used Planet Earth Travel Insurance Services Ltd a company who we have found to be very competitive.
