Holidays in Sweden
At Emagine our many years of experience arranging travel to Scandinavia, and indeed travelling extensively within the region ourselves, make us confident that we can offer expert advice that will allow you to plan a holiday that meets your personal needs. We take pride in offering a friendly personal service and unbiased, knowledgeable opinions.
With the exception of Stockholm we concentrate on the relatively small region of western Sweden. The region has so much to offer and, once outside Gothenburg, is pretty much unexplored by non Scandinavians although all the locals manage to speak perfect English.
Along the coast you can take in breathtaking views, sail or kayak through the stunning archipelago or stop in one of the many small picturesque fishing villages.
Inland the region offers excellent hiking and is a golfer’s paradise.
Wherever you go in the region two themes prevail, interesting personal hotels, some featured in our brochure have just 10 rooms, and excellent food.
During July the coast is popular with Swedes and Norwegians wanting to make the most of the very long summer days, many exploring the archipelago in their sailing boats tying up each evening at tiny island harbours dominated by pretty red fishermen’s huts some now converted into restaurants and hotels.
Outside of this period, especially mid-week, the region is much quieter and by mid August when the Swedes return to work, allowing the anti-social among us to explore at will while still enjoying the remaining summer days.
The region has a few strong traditions that, not surprisingly, revolve around food. In September and October everyone heads to the coast for Lobster weekends eating in the lovely waterside restaurants.
From late November all restaurants offer spectacular table-groaning Christmas buffets with each establishment trying to out do the next. When combined with a visit to the festive Liseberg Christmas market in Gothenburg you really will be getting into the Christmas spirit.

Stockholm is a beautiful, lively city that offers a wonderful mix of cultures, architecture and tourist attractions that appeal to visitors throughout the year.
Architecturally the old narrow streets of Gamla Stan and beautiful palaces are in contrast to the straight lines of modern Scandinavian design found in many of the hotels.

This beautiful, compact green city takes visitors by surprise with its wonderful relaxed and welcoming atmosphere whatever the season.
The best way to explore is on foot, although the city boasts an efficient transport system, taking in the many parks, shopping in the wealth of large stores, boutiques, design shops and cafes, not forgetting that the sea and archipelago is never far away.
Those in search of culture will appreciate Opera House, Concert Hall, home to Sweden’s National orchestra and the Art museum. As with the whole region Gothenburg is proud of its gourmet traditions, especially when it comes to seafood.

We think there are so many great places to stay in the region that we thought we would tell you more about them and let you plan your own fly drive itinerary, setting your own pace.
At several locations it will be necessary to park your car on the mainland and hop on a small ferry to take you on a short journey through the archipelago to your hotel.
Driving is a pleasure with routes well signposted although figuring out the car ferry (some taking you just a couple of hundred metres) protocol can be amusing, if only for the locals!
